Ultrasound Pics!

Wednesday, February 25, 2009
Here are the very anticipated ultrasound pics! Everything with the baby looked great---healthy and growing just as he/she should. My mom insists on being told in person, so I can't post whether we found out if it was Henry or Claire until Friday....sorry!

In the meantime, enjoy the pics!

Week 19! Almost halfway!?

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

New for this week? A black and white photo. I thought I'd change it up a bit. I'm 19 weeks today, just one week shy of being halfway through this pregnancy...really? I can't believe how fast it's been going lately.

I feel like my bump is still about the same size it's been for a while, but continues to get harder.

Big news for this week is of course our ultrasound tomorrow. It's literally all I can think about. I'm so excited to start picking things out and buying cute clothes. So many stores have such great clearance deals going on right now, but everything is either very specifically girl or boy. One more day! I just hope baby cooperates and shows us what we need to see!

Not only will we find out the baby's sex, but also other more important things about his/her growth--specifically the heart and brain. So though I'm so excited to find out if it will be Claire or Henry joining our family in July, I can't help but worry about what else they may find.

I've also been having ridiculous dreams lately, which I don't know if that's pregnancy related or not--but here are some of the dream highlights in the last week:

-Twice in one night I had a dream I lost my teaching job due to budget cuts.
-I was chased by a wolf in our neighborhood, and a random guy walking by with spear saved me.
-I had the baby on July 5th, and somehow Ryan wasn't told and never made it to the hospital.
-We found out at the ultrasound our baby was a boy. (This was a dream, remember).

My dreams have been so vivid and real lately, so much to the point that they always wake me up, which is in addition to the other 50 times I wake up in the middle of night.

Stay tuned...Henry or Claire?!

Baby Gifts!

Sunday, February 22, 2009
Our friends Andy and Erin bought us these onesies and they are so adorable, I just had to share them.

The one on top (which is so true!) says "My dad is a geek." The second one says "Eat at Mom's." Hilarious! Thank you to Andy and Erin for these super cute shirts! I can't wait for the baby to wear them!

Active Baby!

Friday, February 20, 2009
We had another regular OB appointment today. Baby's heartbeat is still going strong and fast. The little doppler machine that she uses to hear the heartbeat can also detect movement (which I didn't know) because she said all of the "rustling" we heard along with the heartbeat was the baby moving...a lot! So, we apparently have an active baby...I just can't feel it much yet. Does this mean when I AM able to feel it that I will be a human punching bag? Who knows!?

Countdown to the big ultrasound....5 days! Claire or Henry? I'm still thinking girl, and Ryan is beginning to think boy....we will see!

Why are you wearing that shirt?

Tuesday, February 17, 2009
This was asked of me today by a 3 year old in one of my classes. The shirt in question is the one featured in this week's bump shot. After a short conversation about what exactly she meant and if she liked my shirt (which she said she did), I still wasn't clear what she meant by her question.

Maybe it was just her 3 year old way of saying "Umm...that shirt makes you look fat...", and I'm ok with that :)

Week 18 Bump!

Here's the weekly bump! It's gotten harder over the last week, but I'm not sure it's much bigger than last week. Judging by many of the things I've been reading, I should really "pop" in the next few weeks .

We have our next regular OB appointment this Friday where they will do the standard stuff (check heartbeat, my weight, my blood pressure, etc.). Then of course, we have our big U/S next Wednesday. I've decided the update on the blog and facebook may be a few days late so that we have a chance to tell the grandparents in person that weekend. Stay tuned. Any guesses? Boy or girl? Sometimes I have a hunch that it's a girl, but who knows!?

Nursery and changing table progress!

Monday, February 16, 2009
I'm a posting machine today. Here are some pictures of the finished changing table (thank goodness, because I was forgetting what my husband looked like), and the now painted nursery. We may add a brown stripe around the middle, but we're not sure yet.

The changing table is amazing. Ryan can't seem to get enough of hearing that. (He chuckles as he reads over my shoulder.)

If it's a boy, the nursery will be a green/brown/blue theme, possibly with the ABC's or a jungle animal theme, depending on the type of bedding available at Target. If it's a girl, it will be green/brown/pink, and Target had some cute polka dot stuff and flower stuff in those colors.

Mocha says "I'm the baby"....

Target is usually my best friend...today, I hate them.

My day off today meant the much needed time to run some errands--mainly grocery shopping. After spending an hour actually shopping, I proceed to the checkout. Every checkout had a line 2 people deep, and I picked the one that looked like it would move the fastest based on the number of groceries in the other people's carts. Boy, was I wrong. And I wasn't about to go all the way to the other end of Target to get to the next open cashier. The cashier I picked must have been trying to see exactly how slow she could scan today. I'm pretty sure I waited at least 10 minutes before I even got my groceries on the belt. Because she was going SO slow, I had to wait for the belt to move 1/2 inch before I could put another box or can on, thus meaning I couldn't stand by the screen to make sure she wasn't ripping me off and scanning things twice.

Finally, I get all of my groceries on the belt and start loading my cart. Just because I'm pregnant, I don't feel entitled to special treatment, but considering that I view myself as looking obviously pregnant, one would think it would be a good idea not to pack the bags as full as you can so that they feel like they weigh 40 pounds each for me. As I struggle to lift the bags into the cart, groceries start falling out because it's packed too full. Does she offer another bag? No...just watches me struggle to reorganize her bags. And, as I'm trying to reorganize the bags, I realize that my carefully sorted groceries turned into bananas with my steak and grapes with my chicken and beef roast, etc....gross. There's a reason I put ALL of the produce on the belt first, followed by frozen stuff, followed by meat. I want the meat separate! Maybe that's just a pet peeve of mine or pregnancy hormones running high, but honestly, isn't it common sense to keep the meat separate from other things...especially produce??!

When she's about halfway through my overflowing cart of groceries, another cashier comes up to take her place and laughs that they must be playing "musical cashiers" today. This girl is a little faster and humors me with her small talk of how damaged her hair is today after using too many products and the curling iron yesterday. As she finishes up the second half of my groceries, she also continues to hand me bags that weigh 40 pounds. However, she was smart enough to notice that I would likely need a second cart and proceeds to flag down another girl to get one.

I give her my coupons, finish filling my 2 carts and wait for my receipt. I spent a ton of money and didn't get any coupons. My brother spent $50.00 yesterday and got a $5.00 off coupon for groceries. There is no justice. The entire time I'm waiting for her to scan the coupons and such, I figure she'd call or flag someone down to help the pregnant woman take out the two overflowing carts of groceries...but does she? No. Nothing. She barely hands me my receipt before she starts her small talk with the next customer in line as I struggle to maneuver two heavy carts.

Because my bags were so insanely heavy, it took me twice as long to unload them from the car, as I could only handle one bag at a time. Thanks Target, you sucked today.

Undeniable Flutters!!

Friday, February 13, 2009
I definitely felt my first flutters today while sitting at my desk. It felt just as my books had described it--kinda like popcorn popping. There were multiple soft, little "tickles" I could feel on the inside. Baby Sefkow apparently likes Tropical Punch Kool-Aid. :)

Posting Comments....

Thursday, February 12, 2009
Ok, so that was my fault. I had some setting set incorrectly. I accidently had it set to only allow those with a google account to post..now anyone should be able to post comments.

I also think if you choose to "follow" this blog that it lets you post as well.

That's all for now!

Week 17!

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

Here's the bump! I've heard I'm barely showing, and I've heard that I'm beginning to look really cute, so you be the judge. Looking at me from the front, and when sitting down, my bump is definitely starting to "round" itself out.

My skin is also FINALLY starting to settle down. I've had the acne of a teenager up until a week ago--so maybe this is the start of the "glowing pregnancy" phase? Up until now, I've felt everything but glowing.

Ryan finally finished the bottom portion of the changing table. It's better than anything professionally made, as he would say. Here's a picture:

There really isn't anything else new really on the pregnancy front. Our big ultrasound is scheduled for February 25th--which is just 15 days away. Yes, I'm counting down and can hardly wait to find out if we have a boy or girl.

We have our girl name picked out, and we have narrowed down our boy names to two different names.

If we have a girl, her name will be Claire Marie. If we have a boy, we are thinking about Colin Dale or Colin Thomas or Henry Dale. If you don't like them, please refrain from telling me so. We have our hearts set on these names and don't want anyone to ruin them.

That's about it. I hear from a variety of different people that read this blog, but no one comments on it. Comment!---specifically those family members I know who read it! :)

16 Weeks and hungry all the time!

Tuesday, February 3, 2009

What a difference a week makes! Since my bump is clearly visible under my clothes, I will no longer be posting bare belly pics. I woke up in the middle of the night on Saturday, and could just tell I felt a little different...sure enough, there's the bump!

The baby is a little over 4 inches long this week and weighs about 2.75 ounces. Legs have become longer than arms, and the arms and legs are moving. My books says I may begin feeling the baby move around this time. I think I've been feeling what people call "flutters" but I'm not sure what I'm looking for, so who knows if that's what it is.

Since I got a body pillow, I've been more comfortable sleeping, but still have difficulties staying asleep and wake up often in the middle of the night. I'm guessing this likely won't improve any time soon.

I've also pretty much been hungry all the time. Even when I'm eating, I'm thinking about what I'll snack on later, or have for dinner..and about one hour after eating, I feel like eating again. I guess I'm taking my grandpa's place for the time being since he's up in heaven now...he was always thinking about the next meal. I've been doing my very best to get lots of fruits/veggies, yogurt and such in my diet, but in addition to all that, I've mostly been wanting super high carb pastas, french fries, ice cream, and chips...I guess at the very least my weight gain will pick up a little bit.

It's hard to believe that this week is the last week of my fourth month. Clearly then, I'll be in my fifth month starting next week--but I don't really think I can say "I'm 5 months pregnant" until I actually complete the 5th month...who knows...all the books are different.

Ryan's been working non-stop on the changing table. He pretty much is in the garage or downstairs all night after getting home from work. He's currently painting it white, but here's the latest picture I have. My husband is pretty crafty.
