"Are you excited?" and "Is your husband excited?"

Thursday, April 30, 2009
All acquaintances and strangers who have asked me questions about my pregnancy have asked me one or both of the above two questions.

I've been thinking about it a lot since the last person asked me last night, and I just don't understand what goes through people's heads when they ask these questions.

Could I honestly be anymore excited? Really? You think I would say I'm not excited about my future son? And then to think that my husband could be anything less than excited?

It boggles my mind.

28 Weeks on the 28th!

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Week 28. I'm beginning to feel and look rather large. I outgrew one of my Twins workshirts in just a little over two weeks and will be upgrading to a larger size that actually covers my belly tonight. I've been really good about showcasing all of my maternity clothes, but alas, have come to the end where I will now be repeating outfits on the weekly bump picture since I'm running low on things that comfortably fit my expanding belly.

We are naming our baby Henry...not Hank. I can't remember if I've posted before about this, but so many people have responded with "So you mean Hank?" when I tell them I'm naming him Henry. No not Hank....not like Hank. His name will be Henry. Vent over.

Ryan would like me to update about the basement, since his goal is to get it done before Henry arrives. Framing is done, preliminary electrical work is done and will be finished this weekend. Next week the drywall will start. Everything has gone pretty smoothly from what I can see and have been told :).

I'm really boring today--I posted too much over the weekend I guess!

A dress that fits...and my new haircut.

Sunday, April 26, 2009

It's a special belly picture! I've collected 4 different dresses, all of which I've been super excited to buy, and this is the first one that I actually didn't cry about after putting it on. Also, note the new haircut. I was absolutely hating my hair before, and it was just time for something different. This picture isn't the best angle for the haircut, but I'm super happy with it.

Week 27 Recap

So I was feeling nauseous each morning this week, and actually threw up in my car on the way to work on Wednesday (super, I know). I was getting really discouraged that morning sickness was coming back--really? at this point in the pregnancy? Thursday night I developed more nausea, as well as an insanely painful sore throat and on again off again headaches. I woke up Friday with just the sore throat, so I decided to give school a go. Once I got there, I felt even worse and decided to call my doctor. They were concerned that I might have strep, so they had me come in for a throat culture and to check my blood pressure. Of course, everything checked out fine, I didn't have strep, and my blood pressure was perfect. What did that mean then? I just have a bad virus, and feel like absolute crap and the only thing I could take was Tylenol for the headaches, and sleep. So, upon leaving the clinic, I decided to add a cookie dough blizzard from Dairy Queen to that prescription and went home and slept. I haven't had nausea since Friday night, but I haven't been able to shake the sore throat yet, and there's nothing I can take for it...boo.

Henry's kicks have gotten increasingly stronger the past few days, and he's also been super active--kicking non-stop at certain points of the day. I also have felt there have been times where he's seriously kicking and punching me with all four limbs. Ryan and I also got our first chance to see Henry flipping around, as one side of my belly was protruding much more than they other side--pretty cool!

I've been feeling really lazy this weekend, and aside from eating haven't accomplished much other than a few loads of laundry yesterday. However, I then realize that I work Twins games Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday this week, have camp interviews for the summer on Thursday, and work Twins games Saturday and Sunday. It's going to be another long week...I think a little laziness this weekend will do Henry and I some good.

Week 27: The beginning of the third trimester!

Tuesday, April 21, 2009

It's the beginning of the end this week, as Henry and I continue to grow. I don't really have many updates, as I just posted on Friday. Although, I do think I neglected to post that we found a daycare last week. After calling 50 some people and only finding 5 who actually had an opening for an infant, we decided on the second one we interviewed. I got a really good vibe from her and she seemed very caring and attentive. I'm glad that stress is over, though I'm sure I'll be crying all day at work the first week we send Henry to daycare no matter how comfortable I feel with this woman.

Henry is weighing in at a little more than 2 pounds this week according to my pregnancy book. If he's destined to be anywhere near as big as his daddy was, he's likely above that curve, I'm guessing. He's also a little over 15 inches long from head to toe!

Since I'm lacking anything else interesting to write, I'll post a few answers to one of the most common questions I get asked: "What do you miss most about pre-pregnancy life?" Here it goes...

-Diet Coke...I'm about ready to give my left arm for just a taste.
-Sleeping on my stomach.
-Being able to go up the stairs in the house without getting winded.
-Non-puffy feet and ankles.
-Being able to chase Mocha.
-Coffee on days when I'm really tired.
-Shaving my legs comfortably in the shower.
-Being able to roll over in bed without it being the biggest struggle of the day. Sometimes I just give up because it's too hard to manuever my body and the body pillow under the blankets.
-Sitting on the floor with my students, and then being able to get up off of said floor without much of a struggle.
-Hot Dogs, Corn Dogs, regular bacon, sausage, ham, etc...all that stuff that has nitrates in it.
-I love my baby bump, but I'm also starting to miss regular clothes.
-Being able to bend over and switch the laundry from the washer to the dryer without difficulty.
-Fitting into any coat that I own.
-Not needing a back massage every day.
-Not having to take a giant pill every day.
-Going on extra long walks with Mocha.
-Being able to sprint from the parking ramp to the dome when I'm running late.

That's about all I can think of for now. Sorry, I meant for that to be more interesting, but I guess I don't miss quite as much as I thought.

Umm, I need to tell you something. I think there's a baby in your tummy.

I love my preschoolers. One of my boys raised his hand very insistently during circle time because he just had to tell me this. He also had the look on his face of "man, you better get that checked out". It was too cute.

In other news, I passed my glucose test! The drink actually wasn't that bad. It pretty much tasted like fruit punch like it was suppose to, just a bit flat.

Everything else at my appointment went well. They checked my hemoglobin which looked great, my blood pressure is still sitting good, I'm measuring where I should be, and still gaining weight, obviously.

My appointments are now every two weeks until week 36, which is kinda crazy. I feel like the next couple weeks will fly by.

Ryan is talking about finishing the basement. He insists it will be done before Henry gets here...let's take bets. :)

My last week in the second trimester!

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

It's hard to believe I'm starting the last trimester of this pregnancy next week. It has really been flying by lately. We have our next doctor's appointment on Friday where I will need to do my glucose test. As I said before, I'll need to drink some strongly amped up sugar red liquid (that is "suppose" to taste like Hawaiian Punch) within 5 minutes and then sit in the lab for an hour to see how my body handles the sugar. If I "fail" this test, I will need to do it over again, only over a period of 3 hours instead of 1. Wish me luck! I will post the results of that test on Friday.

Other than that, I have a very busy week of school, Twins games, and camp stuff, so I'm already looking forward to next Monday for what will likely be time for some much needed rest.

I need to get off to work, but I will be posting some other stuff later.

Hot Dogs and Beer! (Week 25)

Thursday, April 9, 2009

So I FINALLY have a moment to update the blog. This picture was taken on Tuesday as always, I've just been working non-stop between school and Twins games since Monday and haven't had a chance to post.

Week 25---my uterus is about the size of a soccer ball, and Henry likely weighs in at a whopping 1.5 pounds already...pretty unbelievable!

As I had suspected, going back to working Twins games has made me miss beer and hot dogs...a lot. Someone ate a dome dog right next to me last night and it was all I wanted the entire night. Since I "can't" have hot dogs (let alone the mystery meat that dome dogs are likely made of), it was a long night of watching the dollar dogs go on by. And for those who are wondering why I "can't" have hot dogs (or corn dogs which would be really yummy right now) it's because of the sodium nitrates/nitrites that are in them (some sort of preservative that I can't even remember what it supposedly does).

After working three nights in a row, I'm feeling pretty good. I was sitting down on Tuesday night, and I get to sit down at today's game, so it breaks up the constant standing I would typically have to do, which is nice.

I also have already started training Henry while in the womb. I had my first chance to catch part of the game inside last night, and when I walked in they were just announcing "Twins fans, your Minnesota Twins!" Henry hadn't kicked since I left school, and after they announced that, Henry gave me one, and only one good kick...it was like he was cheering inside :) I thought it was pretty cute.

After three nights at Twins games, I've also decided it would be a great idea if I just made myself a sign and carried it around all day, and this is what it would say:

"Yes, I'm pregnant. I'm due July 21st. It's a boy and we are naming him Henry."

I wish I had a dollar for every time I answered those questions in the last three nights. Not that I don't love talking about Henry and my pregnancy, it would just be easier to say it once instead of over and over every time I see another co-worker I haven't run into yet.

And probably the two most "interesting" comments I've gotten in the last couple nights:

"So, really...what's it like to NOT get to drink beer and wine?" Seriously, you drink that much that you can't fathom not being able to drink?

And my favorite....

"Wow, what happened to you? Long winter, huh?" Yes, Mr. Security Guard, it was a long winter...really? Who says this?

In other baby news, one of my fabulous co-workers at school gave me three boxes of boys clothes (including a cute Twins outfit :)) last week. There were all kinds of onesies, sleepers, pants, hats, socks, you name it. It completely filled one of Henry's drawers--so that was pretty awesome.

I'll be having two showers, both of which dates have been set for. My "Winona" shower will be June 6th, and my "Cities" shower will be May 16th. I'm getting excited for those and hopefully the warm weather that will come with them, as I'm very anxious to start wearing the dresses I've bought.

I think that is all for now!
