Someday I'll be big like my daddy. For now, I'm ok being in the 25%tile.

You're gonna make me eat what today?

It's alright...but why can't I have syrup?

Nom, nom, nom.

More please!

Boy Next Door

Tuesday, March 23, 2010
In case you can't read what his shirt says, that's what it says (Boy Next Door)--and has Charlies Brown on it. With the 5 girls already around this neighborhood, I'm sure he's going to be breaking hearts someday. It was a beautiful 62 degrees when I came home, so we went outside and grilled. We tried putting Henry in the grass, but he wasn't a fan. Not in the least. He was literally scared. He screamed his scared cry and had his scared look on his face. It was sad. I tried to sit down with him, but he started screaming just by looking at the grass. We'll take baby steps, I guess. It was probably a little too much of a new thing. He was also a little hesitant about the deck, but warmed up quickly and was soon crawling everywhere. Thank goodness for such a beautiful afternoon!

I love how I caught the sun in this photo!

Henry got some new little $4.00 shoes at Old Navy.

Henry's first play date! (and the 200th post!)

Sunday, March 21, 2010

Ok. So it wasn't so much of a play date as it was our neighbor's daughter being way too distracted by Henry for her 1 year photo shoot. Henry was also very interested in her and just couldn't be kept in one spot without getting mad that he couldn't go check her out. They were too cute together. Also, as you saw above, this post marks the 200th post of this blog. Yay me! Here are some other photos from the photo shoot turned "play date".

When they were playing with the piano together, Henry was trying to remove her hands from the toy (and made lots of noise while doing it). I'm not sure if he was just trying to touch her, or if he was actually wanting her to get away from HIS toy. Geesh! This sharing stuff takes many years to develop! I work on these skills with my preschoolers!

These last two photos are just too adorable.

Henry's got mad's an update!

Saturday, March 20, 2010

No post is complete without a picture, right?

So I've been usually great about getting photos up here, but I haven't been updating much on the text side of things lately, so here we go (I can only do this right now because the rest of the house is still sleeping!)

Henry had a really fussy night Thursday night, so we took him to the doctor yesterday to see if he had another ear infection. Super great news---both ears looked great! However, he has begun this every-so-often pattern of waking up in the middle of the night again screaming...and then screaming again when you try to put him down. The doctor suggested starting "cry it out" or we will quickly lose his beautiful sleeping pattern of usually sleeping through the night. I know it's a good idea, but man, is it hard. I tried it last night where I was just standing in his doorway listening to him cry for about 2 minutes before I couldn't take it anymore and then rocked him to sleep. He did sleep through the night last night, so hopefully (crosses fingers) we won't have to do this too much.

I put up a video and facebook status the other week--but as an official update, he began crawling on all fours on March 9th. This child can no longer be contained in one spot unless he's in his jumper. He is on the move ALL. THE. TIME. It's adorable to see his little butt wiggle. He continues to enjoy chasing the dog toys, bowls, and rawhides.  Here are some of the other things he has learned how to do in basically the last week and a half.

-continues to enjoy standing up. we've even seen a few steps of cruising (walking along the furniture) when there is something much desired on the other end of the couch (I'd like to say that desired object is me..but it's usually the remote.)

-has figured out how to bring himself down with his arms from the standing position without falling over and smacking his head on something...(except when he sees something he really wants, lets go with both hands, and then goes crashing down.) we also take a lot of spills right on our bottom. that diaper provides a nice embedded cushion for the tush.

-just learned he could stand up in his crib last night. this will likely begin causing additional sleeplessness for me as I'm afraid he's going to start smacking his head even more than he already does in there.

-picks up (and eats) cherrios and gerber puffs like a pro.

-has mastered the sippy cup for the most part. we still mostly enjoy playing with it, but have figured out how to drink out of it. he very much enjoys water with a hint of apple juice.

-has SEVEN teeth. yes, you read that right, SEVEN teeth. we know a 15 month old in the neighborhood who has two. TWO.

-has learned how to clap. he will all of a sudden start clapping and smiling. love it.

-weighed 18.8 pounds at the doctor yesterday, so still growing, but probably still in the low percentiles.

-tried his first swing last weekend and loved it. daddy says he's going to build him a swingset structure. that will be exciting.

-even though he's small, he continues to eat well. over the course of the day he scarfs down 4 or 5 8 oz bottles, 1 package of fruit with cereal, 2 packages of vegetables (1 with cereal), and snacks like the puffs or cherrios. i guess he's just going to be little like me!

-his vocalizations are also beginning to change. he's really started babbling lately and it's beginning to sound more like "talking". it's awesome. i've read in some of my books that the "dada" and "mama" could be making an appearance soon...though i think it'll be a while longer before it's "dada" and "mama" with specific intent.

This child turns 8 months next weekend. I simply can't believe it. Before too long I'll be sending out birthday invitations. It is ridiculously cliche to say that "it goes too fast"...but it really, really does.

This is how I sleep...

Butt in the air. every. night. Love it. This child never ceases to humor us. He wakes up with red knees every morning. At first I was a little concerned about it, but I checked with my occupational/physical therapist at work and she said there is nothing to worry about. :) Oh, and these photos were taken in total darkness. I heart my camera.

A progression of crawling...

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

A progression of clips of Henry crawling over the last week. The first clip was the first time he crawled on all fours. You can't keep this child in one spot!

Peach Puffs...and some clapping!

Monday, March 15, 2010
Yay for new skills! Puff eating and clapping!

Sunday, March 14, 2010

60 some degrees today! Outside photos of Henry for the first time he was about 3 months. He LOVED the swing...and stupid us forgot to take our video camera with us! He was giggling and smiling like crazy.

Ryan vs. Jenna

Monday, March 8, 2010

Who do YOU think Henry looks more like? The two on the top are obviously Ryan, and the two bottom photos are of myself. Vote for your choice by commenting on this post. Anonymous comments will not be tolerated nor considered in final vote count. Top vote getter gets out of poopy diapers for a week! If you're reading this, please comment. Otherwise I can foresee the final vote being 1 vote for Jenna (from my mom) and 2 votes for Ryan (from his mom and dad). Let's make it interesting! Voting closes Friday at 4:00pm.

Bunny Ears!

Sunday, March 7, 2010

It's getting (and will continue to get) increasingly difficult to take "portraits" of this very mobile child. This is all we could muster up with our Target dollar bin bunny ears. :) Maybe we'll try again another day.

Push ups, and fun with the kitchen toy!

A few candids from this morning! Don't forget to check out the video in the previous post!

There are a lot of ladies around this neighborhood...gotta get the body in shape! One, and two, and three...

Practicing my standing up is my FAVORITE thing to do these days!

Yes, I have a kitchen toy. What's it to ya? A guy's gotta learn how to cook too! I might wind up with a wife someday that can't cook...(just like my momma...but don't tell her I said that.) I do hear she's really good at baking cookies though.

Jump, Jump, Jump!

7 Month Update!

Tuesday, March 2, 2010
Where to begin!?! He is still army crawling. We've seen him take a few "steps" forward while staying on his knees, but for now he's content on pulling himself around...and for us, he moves fast enough that way already! I can't imagine how much he'll be cruising around once he gets the hang of it. He really likes trying to get at the dog bowls, the dog toys, the edge of the carpet, and the stand of the swing...weird. He has a few toys that are supposed to "encourage" crawling but he's more interested in everything else.

He also pulled himself to standing for the first time on Thursday at daycare and then did it for us on Friday! I've included a photo and a video of him standing up. He's a pro already! He likes to crawl to me and then pull him self up. He even knows to put one of his hands in each of mine. This boy is going to be walking/running around before we know it!

He had his ears checked out again last Monday. The doctor said that it was still a bit red and inflamed so he's been on another antibiotic since then. He went and got his booster flu shots yesterday and they checked his ear out again and said it was looking pretty normal. Yay!! He also weighed 18 pounds last week. He's slowly inching closer to graduating out of that heavy infant car seat!

We tried real turkey tonight. The doctor suggested we go to the deli and have them slice it as thin as possible. He seemed to really like it. He doesn't have the pincer grasp down yet, so he hasn't fed himself one single piece of finger food yet. I've been (trying) to put food in his mouth so that he can experience it, and the turkey was the first thing he was actually opening his mouth for. All other finger foods he has pushed my hand away!

and just for some vintage photoshop fun:

And here's the video...there are a couple clips in it.
