The long awaited birthday post.

Wednesday, August 4, 2010
I know many of you have been checking and checking this blog for the official birthday update. Let me tell you, hopefully it will be worth the wait. I think there's something like 50 photos in this post. Happy scrolling :)

Henry's actual birthday was last Wednesday the 28th. Uncle Adam and Auntie Liz (pronounced in the "ant" way of pronouncing auntie) flew in to join in the festivities. Both grandmas and grandpas were there, as well as Uncle Josh and Double G (my grandma).

We spent his day first with the cake smash photo shoot from the previous post, followed by a fabulous egg bake brunch made by Double G, napped, opened presents, napped, ate cake, and had Henry's favorite: spaghetti for dinner. I think these photos go in order for the most part. The first photo is of him trying to open up his first birthday present.

On Sunday, we had his big birthday party. I put a lot of time into it, and it went off without a hitch. Everyone came, I had enough food, and Henry had plenty of people to entertain. Look for those photos further to the bottom of the post.

Double G bought him a Little Tikes T-ball set. Bumpa is getting him practicing right away!

Uncle Joshie's present.

I handmade his hat out of felt, scrapbook paper, tag board, mod podge, and hot glue with a little help from Kelly :)

Bumpa had to go back to work...Henry gives him a kissie goodbye.

Riding in the new Coupe! Notice the arm hanging out the window in true male fashion.

Not quite in order, but Henry had to help Daddy put it together.

I made Henry a simple round cake for him to smash all on his own. It's a baseball, of course. I let it stay in the fridge too long, though, as it wasn't very smash-able.

Whatcha lookin' at mama?

Henry was having a good time making everyone laugh.

My amazing baseball cake. Hand stitched by yours truly. It was a big hit and there was only one piece left after the party. A big thank you to Uncle Adam and Auntie Liz for helping me save the fondant at 10:00 pm the night before after I failed to really read the directions.

IMG_2529

I was really proud of this cake. There are a lot of photos of it.

IMG_2531

Can you see that stitching!?

I also handmade the birthday banner out of ribbon, scrapbooking paper, adhesive, and printed the letters on my printer.

IMG_2522

The party favors were a pair of baseball cookies (notice the baseball ribbon they are tied together with)! They were also a huge hit!

Party planner and cake baker extraordinaire...me. I had a hard time watching my mom cut through this cake.

I wanted a photo of Henry with his birthday party cake...but after smashing the first two cakes put in front of him on Wednesday, he was less than happy that that was NOT what I wanted to do this time.

IMG_2561

Introducing him to the red solo cups way too early. Thanks Auntie Liz :)

Everyone should have neighbors like these two. They are pretty awesome and amazing, and Henry loves them. What's that he's sitting on? A handmade toy box with his name on top. Incredible. It's covered in 2009 pennies. It's awesome. Did I say that yet? Chris went through $40 worth of pennies to find enough 2009 ones to put on the toybox. And these two are getting married on Saturday! Happy wedding week Chris and Kelly!

IMG_2680

Take two. Henry is happier.

IMG_2683

How many engineers does it take to de-package and assemble 1 year old toys? Two.

"It's like stealing candy from a baby." Or, a toy rather. Poor sleeping Harrison didn't stand a chance against toy thief Henry.

Baby Harrison gets in on the present action. This guy will celebrate his 1 year birthday exactly 4 months from Henry's!

Just because I know you guys are reading this.

Henry's appointment went about as well as I would have expected. He is still a tiny peanut. He was 5%tile for height and 10%tile for weight. As much as it continues to alarm me a bit, it makes more sense to me that he hasn't gained more than 12 ounces since 9 months. This child NEVER.STOPS.MOVING. He is literally moving or doing something unless he is sleeping. This is the time in a young toddler's life where weight tends to level out for everyone. Thus, pair that with an incredibly active toddler, and you have very little weight gain. As far as height, the doctor is still chalking that up to my genes. However, if at 15 months he takes another dip in %tile, she will refer us to a specialist to rule out growth hormone deficiencies and possibly some other things. Let's hope he's just small and there isn't some underlying unknown problem contributing to his small size.

Other than that, I checked off a bunch of developmental milestones that 15 month olds do that he's already doing. I think the only thing he's not doing yet is climbing up on furniture (but we are definitely trying). He "should" only have 3 words other than mama/dada and after writing them out the other day, he has at least 15 word approximations.

Oh, and his head circumference continues to be at the 70%tile. He's our busy bobblehead and we love him.
