Disney World Trip, 2013!

Friday, May 24, 2013
WAY back in April, we went and saw the big guy. No, not Santa, obviously, but Mickey Mouse and all his "character" friends (you MUST hear how Henry says characters, omg).

We made it a pretty quick trip, getting in on Monday early afternoon and leaving Thursday night, but it was just the right amount of time for their ages. We did Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom (2 times), and Hollywood Studios.

It was hot there already, and I was just at the point of starting to get uncomfortable, so thank goodness that the next time we go to Disney, I won't be pregnant. The kids had a blast though, Henry was entranced with everything, for the most part, as was Claire. Next time we will definitely bring (or, for that matter, any other family vacation in the future) a point and shoot camera. You will notice me show up about 2 times in this whole post---and you'll see one picture of all 4 of us. That makes me kind of sad, but not as sad as I'd be if a stranger dropped my other baby, my 5dmiii, while trying to snap a picture for us. For some reason I didn't utilize my phone as much as I should have. Lesson learned. oh, and as you can see by a few of the pictures, Claire was RARELY into it, and the two of them together? Hahaha. Better luck next time with 3, I suppose!

The flight out was actually pretty smooth. Claire slept for a majority of it, and they were both entertained pretty well between the ipad and the color wonder coloring books we brought.

Our first day was spent at Animal Kingdom. Tons of cool animals to see, but not much in the way of rides. Although both kids loved the dinosaur playground thing and Henry loved the Safari ride.

We were pretty skeptical on whether or not Henry or Claire would want anything to do with meeting characters. I did make them each an autograph book and made Henry a little sticker chart so he got a sticker and a few M&M's every time we successfully stood by and smiled with a character. To our surprise, he notice Pluto and Goofy and wanted to go see them--which was our first set of characters we saw. This didn't hold true to every one we saw, but we did get some good ones here and there.

I swear I have more silly faces from this kid than anything.

Safari Mickey and Minnie also went pretty smoothly.

On our way out of animal kingdom. I swear we aren't white trash parents letting our toddler run around Disney without shoes on. The old navy flip flops I brought for her wouldn't stay on, and this instance for this quick picture, she didn't want to put them back on. No judgment please :)

Our next stop was Magic Kingdom that Tuesday. After the success of the first day's character greetings, I thought this Mickey (who is right near the park entrance with very little wait since there are probably 8 rooms of him) would be a piece of cake. Not so much. Claire showed a flicker of smile there on top, but Henry, yeah, you can see what he's doing.

Photos in front of the castle were also pretty much a bust since Claire wouldn't stay put, Henry wouldn't look when she did stay put, and people with giant sun hats jumped in back of them covering the majority of the castle anyway. sigh.

Mommy braved the Tea Cups this time. Henry clearly enjoyed it.

Claire took her share of naps, thankfully, throughout the day.

Dumbo was a favorite of everyone's. We ended up going on it a few times, I think.

Another successful attempt at a picture of the kids in front of the castle. Clearly, it's a wall hanger.

We took a break and went back to the hotel to swim and came back for the nighttime parade.

Henry's reaction to seeing Peter Pan and Captain Hook in the electrical parade. Completely priceless.

And at 10:30 at night, Claire and I went and saw the princesses. You don't know who's there until you get in there, so I was happy to see Cinderella. Despite the fact that I think it had little to do with Claire being tired, she wasn't into the princesses and I had to hold her for most of them. Next time, I think it'll be a different story.

Our next day we started bright and early at Hollywood Studios, as we had reservations at Hollywood and Vine's Character breakfast, which included Jake, Oso, Handy Manny and June from Little Einstein's. I took a lot of pictures here. Henry did really well with these guys. A quick photo opp before breakfast that Claire was clearly not into.

I love how Claire is busy eating in half of these pictures.

I think she was looking at Jake.

Aside from the breakfast, this was probably another highlight for the kids. The Disney Junior Live on Stage show. It pretty much brings TV to life with their four favorite shows (Mickey, Pirates, Sofia the First, and Doc McStuffins). So much fun. Henry was pretty excited when the bubbles and gold doubloons fell from the sky.

Other randoms from the day. Aside from the Disney Junior breakfast and show, there isn't a ton for Henry's age to do here. He went on the Toy Story Mania ride a few times, but then that was pretty much it aside from meeting the characters below.

Our final day we went back to Magic Kingdom to do all our favorite rides again and take a second chance at Mickey. Favorite ride was definitely Peter Pan's flight, and the Haunted Mansion (oddly enough). Claire isn't a fan of the carousel for some reason!

They both enjoyed Donald and Goofy, but I sure wish they had regular dressed Characters at Magic Kingdom. With the new fantasy land, there's a new area where Minnie, Daisy, Donald and Goofy reside, and it's all carnival type themed.

Third attempt at a picture in front of the castle.

2013-05-24_055

and, YAY! Second attempt with Mickey was a success! Although, I may or may not have had to combine two images for this one.

2013-05-24_056 2013-05-24_057

And that is pretty much it! Like I said, I didn't take a TON of pictures, and when I did bust out the camera, one or both kids was pretty much like "No, thank you!", and I didn't pass my camera off to anyone except the Disney photographer when I took Claire to the princesses.

We still had a great time, and I can't wait to go back again, probably when Norah is around 3 or so. :)
